The difference between a large apartment in theory and practice
Choosing a large apartment does not always mean that you will have a large space! Of course, the empty room looks huge, its area is more than impressive, but in the process of “filling” a lot of free space is suddenly exhausted. In general, this is just one of the problems – contemporary construction abounds in structural elements that can not be removed and limit the capabilities of even the largest apartments. This was exactly the case with the Apartment IM. In theory, the space is huge, in practice, however, in the center of the living room are placed some big columns that “split” it and limit its capabilities.
Our main goals were to turn all the defects of this apartment into effects, to make the most of the living space and to propose the classic style desired by the owners. The ugly truth is that in the beginning no one knows exactly what his/her apartment or house wants to look like. Therefore, many different projects and 3D visualizations are created until a balance between the possibilities of the space and the views of the owners is achieved. Specifically, for the Apartment IM, we have created 150 variations and 3D visualizations of the living room only, before proceeding to the production process. The overall realization of the Apartment IM took us 2 years, including the design and production process.
The apartment is asymmetrical. The classic style desired by the owners, in turn, is the epitome of symmetry. All of the time, while working on this apartment, we tried to distort the space in order to pull off a symmetrical look. The beautiful fireplace is designed to cover the radiator. The aim was to create the feeling that this is a real classic fireplace.
The defect becomes an effect
We turned the columns in the living room into a beautiful and functional white console, which gives an additional feeling of space. The console itself has not only an aesthetic role – it is filled with cabinets and drawers that are perfect for storing various items. In the living room, we created a specific background behind the sofas. And the beautiful tiles covered another defect of the apartment – the radiators.
Our clients wished for an exquisite contemporary interpretation of a calssic children’s room. We chose to bet on a different, non-standard shape of the mirror, which will break the classical rhythm and at the same time will look exactly in its place. We focused on such materials that enhance the classic effect and gives the feeling of comfort and beauty.
